How Much Salt Should I Consume During Chemo?

Question

I am starting my first chemotherapy regimen – should I avoid all salt?

Answer

Sodium, (most commonly ingested as salt), is an important part of your daily intake. Your body needs sodium to function correctly; thusly, you should continue having a normal dietary amount. It’s important to not have too little, and equally good practice to not have too much.

Salt is provided in abundance in most recipes, and more than abundantly in prepared and packaged foods.

If you have other conditions which may be affected by sodium levels, you should discuss that with your physician.
