Chef Jim Warner

Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center

James Warner is employed by The Wexner Medical Center at The Ohio State University as Program Director, Food and Nutrition in the Nutrition Services Department. His primary responsibilities include integrating food and nutrition education throughout the medical complex as well as engage with various community initiatives with food and nutrition programming. His responsibilities also include retail food production, menu development, retail operations, renovations and development of offsite retail business opportunities.

James’ education includes an Associate Degree from the Culinary Institute of America and he is a Clinical Instructor at The College of Health and Rehabilitative Sciences at The Ohio State University. He is currently enrolled at The Ohio State University, and serves on the Advisory Board for the Restaurant, Hotel, and Tourism Program at Ohio University.

He has been a chef lecturer for hundreds of events ranging from community events in underserved areas in the state of Ohio, to high end presentations representing the Wexner Medical Center at The Ohio State University. Jim sits on the advisory committee for the JamesCare for Life Food and Nutrition education, as well as OSU’s Food Innovation Center’s planning committee whose focus is on collaborating for a healthier, hunger free world

James has been recognized by the Ohio State University Medical Center as a leader in Community Health and Wellness Education. James orchestrated a collaborative OSU Medical Center/OSU Alumni event that was awarded a Best Concepts Award from Food Management magazine in 2006, his department was awarded The Spirit of the Industry Award, by the National Restaurant Association Education Foundation, and Nations Restaurant News in 2006, and The Department of Nutrition Services was awarded The Silver Plate Award by the International Foodservice Manufacturers for 2008. James was also jointly awarded the McCool Breakthrough Award from the International Council on Hotel, Restaurant, and Institutional Education in 2008, for his participation in the development of an Automated Guided Vehicle System in use at the Ohio State University Medical Center. James recently was Project Team Leader for Top Doc, a culinary competition that showcased the Medical Centers Culinary talent paired with top oncologists from The James Cancer Hospital for a competition modeled after the Top Chef Food Network programs. His team was awarded Best Special Event from Food Management Magazine 2012 Best Concepts awards. The Wexner Medical Center’s Nutrition Services Department was recently awarded Healthcare Innovator of the Year for 2013.
